Dear Sir,
One can only express outrage and disappointment in the recent decision last month in Doha at the rejection by China, Japan and Russia not to put 8 species of Shark on the endangered species list or regulate tuna fishing.
Last week I read up an old National Geographic Magazine dated April 2007 outlining the plight of the oceans stating that 40 million sharks were killed annually for their fins in contrast to last months CITIES conference were they were quoting 72 million barely some 3 years later, although countries like China argue that the trade helps developing nations. I have had the onus of witnessing the methods implemented by the Chinese fisheries as I grew up on Vanuatu, a country in the South Pacific.Firstly in 2006 their was local Ni-Vanuatu opposition of Chinese fisheries due to the fact that very few jobs go to locals.The Chinese fisheries bring in everyone including cooks , fishermen , boatmen, and even their own carpenters to build the factory.However in 200...
